November 2026 Correctional Oasis Summary
The November 2026 issue of Correctional Oasis focuses on creating healthier correctional workplaces through organizational change, stronger communication, and meaningful support for staff. With Thanksgiving approaching, Executive Director Stephanie Rawlings also reflects on the individuals who have dedicated their careers to correctional staff wellness and the lasting impact of their work.
This month’s articles explore why employee wellness programs alone cannot overcome unhealthy workplace cultures, and how meaningful improvements require addressing the organizational conditions contributing to staff stress and fatigue. Gregory R. Morton introduces Generative Corrections, an approach that combines accountability and security with coaching, respectful communication, and opportunities for personal growth. Dr. Caterina Spinaris also examines the skill of validation, explaining how acknowledging someone’s experiences and frustrations can strengthen relationships and reduce conflict without excusing misconduct or compromising accountability.
The issue also includes a farewell message from longtime Desert Waters instructor Brent Parker as he enters retirement, along with a tribute honoring two correctional officers in its In Memoriam section. Throughout the publication, the emphasis remains on recognizing the demands of correctional work while fostering professional environments where staff feel respected, supported, and equipped to succeed.
