The State moved off many of their original proposals and, although neither side moved far enough for us to reach an agreement on the whole contract, it was a very positive session. ...read more.

2/16/12 - Great showing at House Finance Sub-Committee
We had many about 30 CO's and family members show up where these shirts to the House Finance Suh-Committee on Corrections on the 14th. With the number of letters that Officers have sent to the legislature as well as the great turn out to this meeting we feel DOC and Legislature is begining to understand the seriousness of this issue.

1-27-11 President's Letter to all Correctional Officers
2/1/12 - Second Round of Negotiations
As with the last negotiations, the State offered us less than what they offered other unions. In fact, we believe that the regressive offer the State has made Correctional Officers may be the worst bargaining proposal ever made to any union in Alaska history. Taking back the leave is just one of the many concessions the State is proposing. We have conveyed our concern that negotiations must conclude in time to meet the Legislative deadline for funding. We will keep you informed. If you can, please come to the annual meeting on Sunday for additional information that would not be prudent to put on a public website. If you cannot attend the annual meeting please talk to your Board member or any of the Officers that were present at the meeting.
1/17/11 - "Going to Eights" Update - Contact your Legislator
Let your Legislator know that Correctional Officers do NOT want the move to 8's. Remember it is not the Legislators who are responsible for you going to 8-hour shifts, it is DOC Management. We will be doing what we can in Juneau, but it is the voice of their constituents that Legislators listen to. Send a letter or email.
1/17/11 - Annual Meeting and Super Bowl Party
Annual Meeting and Super Bowl party will be on February 5th. If you haven't come to our event in the past, this is the year to come. It is the largest gathering of Correctional Officers in the State.
The main topics to be addressed at the Annual meeting we will be going to 8's and contract negotiations.
Annual Meeting goes from 12:00 - 1:30 pm and the Super Bowl Party will begin at 2pm.
1/11/12 - ACOA Files ULP
Today, January 11, 2012, ACOA filed an Unfair Labor Practice (ULP) in regard to the DOC moving Officers from 12-hour shifts to 8-hour shifts. This is the necessary first step ACOA must take in preventing the Department of Corrections from moving forward with this change.

1/6/12 - Going to Eights Rumor
No doubt, by now, you are all aware of Commissioner Schmidt’s January 4th e-mail. In it he alerts all Correctional Officers to watch for a letter from Deputy Commissioner Sam Edwards that will detail changes that the DOC intends to institute. Commissioner Schmidt’s e-mail did not specifically identify what modifications DOC Management is intending, but as many of you have been hearing from reliable sources for months, we believe they are looking at going to, or will be threatening to go to, eight hour shifts ...read more.

12/16/11 - Recommendations for Submitting Leave Cash-in Slips
Recently, some leave cash-in slips have not been delivered to the Juneau Payroll Section in time for them to be processed with the payroll they are running. It appears now that the delays were at the institutions and not at Payroll in Juneau. ACOA has been advised by Payroll that leave cash-in slips should not be clipped to, nor submitted with, time sheets. We encourage you to turn them in to your Facility’s Admin Department the day you complete and sign them. The Payroll Section encourages the institutions to send the slips in separately, as soon as they receive them from you. When Payroll receives them, they process them with the payroll they are running at that time.
You may turn in Employee Notices of Pay Problems on leave cash-ins through your facility’s Admin department. Please attach backup documentation. We also suggest that any Notices that are submitted include the date you originally turned your leave slip into your Administration.
Juneau confirms that you have the right to turn in these notices of a pay problem.
